In the older days, there was a custom in India to keep aside a portion of food or grain to feed a hungry person or an animal that came to the doorstep. A handful of grain project is based on this concept and has reinvented to suit the present society needs. We partner with households and generous people, provide them with a bag to keep aside a handful of grains each day in the bag and Food for the Hungry volunteers will collect it monthly basis and distribute to Community kitchens, Orphanages and Old Age Homes.
